Confidentiality is a fundamental value employed by Horizons in its relationship with clients. It pertains to all forms of communication: written, printed, and spoken. We at Horizons believe, as does the Surgeon General of the United States, that "effective psychotherapy … depends upon an atmosphere of confidence and trust in which the patient is willing to make frank and complete disclosure of facts, emotions, memories, and fears." Therefore, all information of a personal or professional nature shared with Horizons by clients, their families, client representatives, and other professionals is kept in strict confidence and only released to others when authorization signed by clients has been obtained or when there is a legal or regulatory requirement to do so.
