Horizons Robert J. Buntz Campus and
Anita Daniels Residential Program:
(Gender Specific Group Care Serving Both Male and Female Youth)
Designed for youth between the ages of 16 and 18, the Anita Daniels programs serve youth that have been in state institutions, shelter-care, detention, foster-care, or other situations where they have not had the opportunity to learn to care for themselves. With their 18th birthday rapidly approaching, clients learn skills to help them transition positively into adulthood before they age out of the system.
Teens in this comprehensive group care program take part in rehabilitative treatment activities. In addition, they learn to budget, cook, maintain a household, develop a healthy support network and reject self-destructive choices. These programs are gender-specific with up to 15 adolescents in each respective male and female unit. Clients that are successful in pre-independent living and still under the age of 18 have the opportunity to progress into our Supervised Apartment Living.
While enrolled in the Anita Daniels Program clients will:
- Make progress toward educational goals
- Bring all medical and dental records up to date
- Find and maintain employment in the community
- Volunteer in community activities
- Participate in group therapy
- Set personal goals and work one-on-one with program staff to ensure that goals are being met.
- Save $2000.00 in preparation for living independently

Supervised Apartment (Independent) Living Programs:
Imagine all your worldly belongings fitting into one or two black plastic garbage bags. This is how many clients enter the Supervised Apartment Living Program.
The program is designed to provide both male and female clients with a supported living experience before they turn 18 and age out of the system. The Supervised Apartment Living Program offers clients supportive programming while living in apartments "scattered" throughout the community.
The program helps the client establish their own goals of economic independence and academic success with emphases on five key points:
- Education
- Employment
- Money and Time Management
- Positive Decision Making
While enrolled in the program, clients work toward the goals they set while accumulating possessions to take with them when they leave the program such as furniture, bedding and household goods. To support clients and help them reach their goals, staff provides training and assistance through scheduled groups and contacts with the schools to ensure attendance and academic progress.
Although clients age out of the system at age 18, there are opportunities for clients to remain in the program after they turn 18 until they have finished high school.

School Suspension Program:
A collaborative effort between Horizons Robert J. Buntz Campus, Cedar Rapids Community School District and Marion School District- students who are suspended from school participate in this program instead of getting a day off to do whatever they wish at home. Suspended students are picked up at their school and taken to the Horizon Robert J. Buntz Campus where they spend the day working on homework, doing chores, participating in physical exercises and completing activities designed to help them take responsibility for the behavior that earned the suspension.
