Meals on Wheels provides nutritious meals to older adults. Each meal is computer analyzed and approved by a Registered Dietitian to provide one-third of the daily requirements for older adults.
Along with the healthy meal, the program provides opportunities for socialization and information on health and other topics important to the older adult at congregate meal sites. For homebound individuals and their family members, the daily meal provides a sense of security knowing someone will be stopping in to check on them each day.
Meals on Wheels delivers hot meals seven days a week to homebound seniors. Individuals must be 60 or older and unable to leave their home without assistance to qualify for home delivery. The program includes optional frozen and breakfast meals that help to round out the daily nutritional requirements for those needing additional support.
Volunteers are key to the program providing the smiling face and socialization homebound individuals look forward to each day. The daily delivery serves as an important safety check each day. Drivers notify Meals on Wheels of concerns, and they follow up to make sure the person is safe, or to get them the help they need.
