Horizons, A Family Service Alliance is pleased to announce it has reached a sponsorship agreement between its Meals On Wheels program and The Quaker Oats Company of Chicago, Illinois, a unit of PepsiCo Inc. which operates a plant in Horizons’ headquarters city of Cedar Rapids. As part of the agreement, Quaker will have its logo prominently displayed on one of the three Meals On Wheels vans that help in the delivery of over 300,000 meals a year to homebound older adults & persons with disabilities.

"Along with being one of North America’s leading food producers, Quaker Oats is a symbol of Cedar Rapids, and we are thrilled to have it partner with us to ensure that we can continue to provide this service to those who depend on it," said Dianna Young, Director of Horizons Meals On Wheels.

In turn, Quaker is proud to support Horizons and Meals On Wheels, according to Jay Hardeman, a senior manager for the company’s Cedar Rapids operations. "At Quaker, we feel it's important to support the health and wellness of our community and what better way to do that than through the Meals On Wheels program. We understand that there are far too many people in our own community that would go without a nutritious meal or even someone to check in on them from time to time if it weren't for programs like this," he said.

Horizons’ Meals On Wheels program is designed to improve the nutritional health of the area's homebound older adults and persons with disabilities with their daily nutritional needs. Delivering hot, fresh restaurant-quality food 7 days a week, Meals On Wheels offers ready-to-eat meals in addition to frozen meals, breakfast bags and customizable nutritional plans.

Staff and volunteers who make deliveries provide safety checks, as well as emotional and social support. In addition to delivering over 300,000 meals to homebound people locally, the program delivers another 100,000 meals annually to children in Head Start preschool classrooms. Volunteers are always needed to help with delivering Meals On Wheels. Call 319-398-3574 to find out more.
