Eagle Scout Candidates Complete Projects at Horizons

July 29, 2010

Horizons, A Family Service Alliance, is grateful to have received the services of two local Boy Scouts pursuing their Eagle Scout Award. Mason McCune custom built planters and benches located at the agency’s Cedar Rapids headquarters; while Jacob Schoneman of Cedar Rapids handled landscaping along the building, at the corner of Fifth Street and Ninth Avenue SE.

"It’s been a great project, good to give back to the community for a flood-affected agency," said Jacob, 17, a member of Venture 2000 who will enter his senior year at Kennedy High School in the fall. Mason, 14, is a member of Troop 766 and will be a freshman at Kennedy.

Both Jacob and Mason have graciously given their time and energy to assist Horizons in beautifying its campus. "With the completion of their projects, Mr. Schoneman and Mr. McCune have each proven themselves as leaders," said Bill Gardam, President and CEO of Horizons, A Family Service Alliance. "We couldn’t be happier that these two young men chose to include us in their pursuit of the highest honor in the Boy Scouts of America."
